Fernandina Island
Located in the western sector of the Galapagos, Fernandina
is the youngest island in the archipelago. At just 300,000 years old, the
island is located just above the hotspot that gave rise to the Enchanted
Islands.
Punta Espinoza: the only landing point on the island. Walk
through a volcanic landscape and see the extraordinary La Cumbre volcano. As
you walk through the lava formations, you will find lava cacti (it is a
distinctive cactus because it does not grow on land and grows with little
amount of water). Also, during dry months like June, you can witness snakes
gliding across the warm surface.
Punta Mangle: a
snorkeling site where mangroves have purified the waters, giving life to
species such as penguins, sea lions and the famous flightless cormorants.
Cape Douglas - An incredible dive site, where sea lions and marine iguanas will peacefully swim by your side, and penguins, well, they just rush past you. Even though you won't find larger wildlife, the animals you encounter at Cape Douglas will be unique and fantastic.
